6. Big Teen Energy
Because I'm constantly chasing it.
OK first thing’s first though. Would you all do me a favor and subscribe to a print magazine you like? Truly, any magazine will do. I subscribe to about…five or six, including my absolute favorite Town & Country, one of the world’s most unhinged periodicals.
Entertainment Weekly and InStyle (among a few others, noted here) are ceasing print publications and going digital-only. Really? Entertainment Weekly is a grocery store checkout line staple! Anyway, I found the news rather upsetting and would like to encourage print mag subscription for all. Besides, getting physical mail is such a gas so get on board.
READ
I saw that this wild novel is being turned into a Hulu series so I wanted to bring it back into conversation. I read it last year (or was it the year before, who can say? pandemic and all) and was very intrigued by it. It’s the story of a teenage girl who goes missing while on vacation on a Caribbean island with her family and the aftermath of her disappearance, particularly as it relates to her younger sister. It’s very much a slow burn, but still propulsive. Also, isn’t the cover such a vibe?
WATCH
Those wily HBO teens on Euphoria finally got me and I for one could not be more thrilled about it. Would you look at this gorgeous still of beautiful Sydney Sweeney, crying her eyes out over a dumbass boy. Can you even?! Like, been there, bitch. Been there. Minus the cinematic floral motif of it all.
So I watched the pilot of Euphoria when it initially came out back in 2019 and I don’t know. I was just not in the mood? It was really dark and I simply did not care for it at the time. But since the Season Two premiere a few weeks ago, I feel like it’s all anyone is talking about so I hopped back in because I can’t stand not knowing what’s what. Well, thank fucking god. I care so much about almost every single character (except Nate, because historically any “Nate” in high school dramas must be the worst). The performances are truly beyond. Zendaya can do no wrong, Hunter Schafer fully embodies the ethereal blonde and Sydney. SYDNEY! She’s perfection. I’m obsessed.
This show is like The OC on a host of narcotics. I seriously get whiplash from watching the relatable messy high school drama scenes and then being thrown into the world of drug dealers and anonymous motel room sex. Seriously, fire up the popcorn maker and enjoy. Everybody is hot and kind of insane so Euphoria has my highest recommendation. Get in!
BUY
We’re leaning into the teen theme this week, can you tell? The teens are wreaking havoc on fashion once again, what with near-constant threatening of the return of low-rise jeans (can we not?), but fully immersing the culture into the giant clothing styles of the 90s. I get on board, because it’s fun to play around with the trends. I have a giant blazer that I wear with baggy jeans and I pulled the trigger on some loafers, despite the fact that, to me, they kind of evoke “grandma doing crossword puzzles on the sofa.”
But they do look cool with the big jeans and the blazer.
So I decided I was in and while, I mean, who wouldn’t want to rock the Gucci loafs that are all the rage, they’re a little on the splurgey side at $650 or so? Not exactly the kind of coin I wish to spend on what I suspect will be a passing trend. At least for me. Luckily, Sam Edelman — the brand with the best shoe dupes in my opinion — has come to the rescue with their Loraine Bit Loafer. They come in just about every color imaginable, they’re super comfortable, very soft leather and honestly, I think they’re cuter than the Gucci loafs? And depending where you buy them, they’re about $120-$150. Much more palatable, no?
All right, cuties, here’s hoping this big teen energy finds you well and into your weekend. Pop some glitter on those eyelids for me and run free!
